Gov't Targeting of Civilians In Anglophone Cameroon Is Not New. It's Been Lethal - Hilary Matfess

In the following image, Hilary Matfess has evaluated the threat to civilians in Cameroon’s Anglophone regions, today known as Ambazonia.


According to Hilary's analysis, most of the violence, about 48 percent is caused by CameroUn Security Forces, 30% by Armed Separatist Fighters, and 22% was attributed to unknown armed groups on the ground.

The majority of these deaths are associated with violence by State Security Forces - Hilary Matfess

The Research Analyst further point accusing fingers to the government for the over 430,000 displaced civilians, who are fleeing from targeted killings, stating that this is not a new strategy to the government.

Who Is Hilary Matfess?

Hilary Matfess is a Research Analyst with ACLED and a PhD student at Yale University. She received a BA in International Studies from Johns Hopkins University and an MA in African Studies from Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. She is the author of Women and the War on Boko Haram: Wives, Weapons, Witnesses.
