US President Donald Trump will recognise Jerusalem as Israel's capital, senior administration officials have said.
He is due to announce the controversial decision in a speech later.

Trump will also move the American embassy to Jerusalem, though this will likely take up to six months to finalise. Israel originally recognised Jerusalem as its capital back in 1980, but since it includes illegally occupied land, Jerusalem is not seen as Israel’s capital globally. Palestine claim East Jerusalem as the capital of a future Palestinian state. Leaders from the Arab world have warned that recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel will jeopardise any Middle East peace process. Saudi Arabia was quoted as saying “such a dangerous step is likely to inflame the passions of Muslims around the world due to the great status of Jerusalem and the al-Aqsa Mosque.” Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has responded by sending messaged to EU officials, the Pope, the Jordanian king, and Russia trying to get someone to talk the US out of the move. “Three days of rage” protests are also planned by the Palestinian Authority starting Wednesday.
